Will lifting my truck void my warranty?

Lifting Your Truck: Does it Void the Warranty?

There’s nothing quite like taking a lifted truck out mudding or overland. And if you’re serious about either activity, a lift kit is almost required. Trying to do serious off-roading without one installed is a recipe for disaster. But there are risks that come with lifting a truck, like structural integrity. Generally, things that could hurt your vehicle could also void its warranty.

Lifting Your Truck Voids Your Warranty…Sort Of

Lifting your truck past 2” (or at all for some brands, like Toyota) will void the warranty on parts that are affected or damaged by the lift kit. However, anything not related to or affected by the lift kit will still be covered.

Here’s a quote from the MOPAR Extended Warranty regarding lifting/suspensions kits for RAM vehicles:

THE PLAN WILL NOT COVER, OR APPLY TO LOSS OR EXPENSE RESULTING FROM:

Repairs due to any alterations or modifications to the Vehicle not approved or recommended by the manufacturer, including but not limited to: (a) failure of any custom or add-on / aftermarket part (unless listed as a specific covered part); (b) emissions and/or exhaust systems modifications; engine modifications, transmission modifications, and/or drive axle modifications, which includes any performance modifications; (c) oversized/undersized tires; (d) all frame or suspension modifications;

Lift kits that exceed two (2) inches; repairs to covered components that are the direct result of the failure of a lift kit that exceeds two (2) inches;

2018 MOPAR Extended Warranty

So, if a head gasket is leaking or your A/C unit goes kaput, they’ll still be covered. If you want to lift your brand-new 2020 RAM 1500 or 2020 Jeep Gladiator, though, we don’t recommend going past the manufacturer-recommended 2” mark. At least until the warranty wears off.
