Truck off road

Will insurance cover a lifted truck?

How Does Lifting a Truck Affect Insurance Coverage?

Getting your truck lifted is a rite of passage for many truck owners. Everyone remembers the first truck they got lifted. Even if you didn’t really like that truck, you’ll remember it for a long time. One of the things most people don’t think about when they lift their trucks is how it will affect insurance.

Will it just jack the cost up? Are there stipulations of lift height like there are for warranties? Will insurance even cover a lifted truck?

Is My Lifted Truck Covered?

It depends on your insurance company’s policies. There are a few insurance companies that won’t cover highly modified vehicles at all. Others will cover a lifted truck, but won’t cover any aftermarket parts or damage caused by aftermarket parts. However, there are definitely insurance companies that will cover a lifted truck, aftermarket parts and all. In cases where your truck can be insured, you can expect your premiums to go up. It makes sense that the more it would cost to repair a vehicle, the more you’d have to pay to keep it insured. We recommend asking your insurance provider if they will do policy endorsements for aftermarket vehicles. This will keep costs down in the case that something does go wrong with your modified vehicle or lifted truck.
