FCA Announces Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 392 Concept

The Jeep Wrangler is one-of-a-kind. It hasn’t had any real competition since 1996 when the fifth generation of the Ford Bronco ceased its production. But now that Ford is bringing the Bronco back, Jeep has stepped up their game. They’ve announced an all-new Wrangler variant. Spoiler alert: it’s a doozy.

Wrangler Get V8 for the First Time in 30 Years

The newly-announced Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 392 has a V8 engine for the first time since 1981. It’s a 6.4-liter (392 cu-in) naturally aspirated V8. It pumps out 450 horses and 450 lb-ft of torque. The Rubicon 392 will have an eight-speed automatic transmission and a 4×4 drivetrain. Its is expected to 0-60 mph in under five seconds. The announcement comes after a surge in competition from the new 2021 Ford Bronco. With all that power and torque, however, the Bronco 3.2L turbo-four and 3.7L twin-turbo V6 still fall far short of what the Rubicon 392 is capable of.

Standard Performance Features

The Rubicon 392 won’t just have a beefy new engine; it also has other heavy-duty features. The Wrangler Rubicon 392 has a full-time two-speed transfer case, electronic front and rear axle locks, and Dana 44 axles. The Rubicon 392 will also have a MOPAR lift kit installed. It’s a two-inch lift with aluminum monotube FOX shocks. The rugged 37-inch mud-terrain tires that come standard with it are also excellent.
