Staying safe this winter season by creating traction

Traction on ice and snow is difficult to get, we all know this, But what product is best to help get that traction?

Sand is great for the driveway. It creates traction without harming the environment and is cheap and easy to find. Plus it almost cleans itself up when the ice melts.

Salt seems to be the most popular, mostly because it melts ice in temperatures above 12 degrees. But it dissolves in the water and becomes harmful to plant life and animals. Also, it is expensive and sometimes difficult to find.

Kitty litter is suggested to be in every vehicle's roadside emergency kit, because it is great when vehicles get stuck in the snow. It absorbs water and creates traction when spread behind the tires. But when it absorbs too much water it creates a nasty mess that is difficult to clean up.
